1. Cost of Service & Payment Terms

Deposit Payment

To secure your moving date, fixed-price quote, and requested services, a £100 deposit is required at the time of booking. You will have 24 hours from the time of your confirmation email to make this payment.

If your deposit is not received within this time frame, Mayflower Removals reserves the right to adjust the original quoted price due to changes in availability, peak-day demand, or time slot preferences. Please note: your booking is not confirmed until the deposit is received, and we operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

For moves quoted over £2,000, a deposit of 10% of your total move cost will be required to confirm your booking.

Deposits can be paid securely online via the payment link provided, or over the phone. We accept all major credit and debit cards, including Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.

Refunds & Cancellations

Deposits are fully refundable up to one working day before your scheduled move date. Cancellation requests must be made in writing by email.

For example, if your move is scheduled for Wednesday, you must cancel by Monday afternoon to receive a full refund. If your move is on a weekend, you must cancel by Thursday 5 PM at the latest.

Cancellations made after this cut-off will result in the loss of your deposit.

If you postpone your move and do not reschedule within 30 days, your deposit will be refunded to the original payment card. If you reschedule after 30 days, a new deposit will be required.

Outstanding Balance Payment

The remaining balance must be paid at least one working day before your move date, unless otherwise agreed. We accept card payments, bank transfer, and with prior notice cash on the day.

If you opt to pay in cash or by bank transfer, you must inform us during the booking process and provide payment to the team leader before the move begins. We are unable to begin loading until payment is received in full.

Failure to settle the outstanding balance may result in referral to a debt recovery agency, which could impact your credit record.

Changes to Booking

To reschedule your move, you must notify us at least one working day before your booked date. For peak moving periods, including the final and first few days of each month, we require three working days notice to avoid penalty charges.

Rescheduling or cancelling within these periods without sufficient notice may result in a 100% charge of your quoted fee.

Additional Charges

If you have additional items not listed in your confirmed inventory on the day of the move, you will be provided with an updated quote. Extra charges must be agreed and paid before these items are moved.

If no parking is available within 45 metres (150 feet) of your property, an additional carrying or shuttle fee may apply, depending on distance and load size (up to a maximum of £250).

Parking fines incurred during the move will be covered by Mayflower Removals, unless the customer was responsible for providing a valid permit but failed to do so.

Where possible, we will advise on how to obtain local parking permits, but it is the customer’s responsibility to secure them in advance through the appropriate authority.

Mileage & Fuel

Your quote includes fuel and mileage based on the addresses provided at booking. If the drop-off location changes and results in significant additional mileage, we may charge an additional fuel fee for any extra 10 miles travelled outside the agreed route.

2. Customer Responsibilities and Expectations

Presence During the Move

The customer or an authorised representative (with power of attorney) must be present throughout the move. Mayflower Removals accepts no liability for claims made if no one is available to oversee the process.

Prohibited Items

The following items are strictly prohibited from being packed or transported:

- Hazardous materials such as aerosols, paint, fertilisers, pesticides, acids, batteries, and motor oil

- Flammable substances, including BBQ gas, oil, nail polish/remover, fireworks

- Scuba gear, firearms, ammunition, liquor, chemistry sets

- Pets or live animals

- Perishable food (except when packed and moved locally by the customer)

Customers are responsible for ensuring these items are not included. Mayflower Removals reserves the right to refuse transport of prohibited goods.

Furniture and Appliances

All furniture must be emptied prior to collection unless packing services have been booked. Fridges and freezers must be emptied and defrosted by the customer, even when packing services are selected. We will not be liable for damage or illness resulting from food transport.

Customers must:

- Unplug and prepare all electronics before the move.

- Provide power cables for TVs and monitors to allow for function testing.

Packing by the Customer If customers choose to pack their own items, they must:

- Use strong, durable boxes.

- Limit box weight to a maximum of 15kg (35lbs).

- Accept that fragile items not packed by Mayflower Removals are transported at their own risk.

Plants & Animals

- We do not move live pets under any circumstances.

- We may transport houseplants under 2m in height for local moves under 250 miles.

- We do not store or move plants during long-distance or storage moves.

Special Items

- We move empty aquariums only (no water or live animals).

- Pianos and items over 135kg (300lbs) are moved only if deemed safe by our foreman.

- We do not hoist items through windows or balconies.

- Television & Electronics All televisions must be checked at collection and delivery, and signed for by the customer. We do not unplug, install, or wall-mount any electronics.

Dividing Moves

If you’re moving with a roommate, partner, or separating a household, you are responsible for listing who owns what. We will not intervene or be held liable for ownership disputes or wrongly delivered items.

Item Setup

Our service includes basic setup (e.g. assembling a bed frame), but not multiple rearrangements of furniture. Disassembly is limited to simple tasks involving up to 8 screws, provided items are not glued, sewn, or wired.

Hygiene & Access

We reserve the right to refuse access or cancel a move if the premises pose a health hazard (e.g., infestation, unsanitary conditions). All appliances containing water must be fully drained before collection to avoid damage during transport.

Security

Unless arranged as a contactless service, the customer is responsible for ensuring all doors, windows, gates, and access points are properly secured before and after the move. Mayflower Removals cannot be held responsible for any loss or breach resulting from unsecured premises.
